Dr Amreen Qureshi is a highly trained ophthalmic surgeon with specialisation in vitreoretinal and cataract surgery. She graduated with distinction from King’s College London, UK, and subsequently completed seven years of comprehensive ophthalmology training in the United Kingdom. Dr Qureshi further advanced her expertise through two prestigious vitreoretinal fellowships at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (UK) and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH, Melbourne), where she worked alongside internationally recognised leaders in their field.
Dr Qureshi is a Fellow of both the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK (FRCOphth). She is dedicated to providing high-quality, individualised care, managing the full range of retinal and cataract conditions, including:
Vitreoretinal Surgery: Retinal detachment, macular holes, vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membranes, vitreous haemorrhage, advanced diabetic retinopathy with tractional retinal detachments, floaterectomies, and diagnostic vitrectomies
Cataract Surgery: Routine and complex procedures, including secondary intraocular lens implantation and scleral-fixated implants
Laser Therapy: YAG capsulotomy laser and retinal laser treatments
Medical Retinal Care: Management of macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, and administration of intravitreal injections
Dr Qureshi holds a consultant position in Acute and Surgical Ophthalmology Services at RVEEH, where she provides training to fellows and supervises registrars. As an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, she is committed to medical education and regularly delivers teaching sessions for optometrists and junior doctors. Her academic contributions include publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. Dr Qureshi remains committed to advancing surgical training locally and internationally.
Originally from Kenya, Dr Qureshi developed a strong commitment to addressing health inequities early in her career, earning a BSc in International Health from University College London. Whilst in her training, she volunteered on international surgical missions, supporting underserved communities. She continues her involvement in global eye health initiatives, training surgeons in developing nations through Sight For All and the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Beyond her professional commitments, Dr Qureshi enjoys travelling, exploring diverse cultures, spending quality time with her family, and motherhood.
