Dr Kane is an internationally renowned expert in cataract surgery and a comprehensive general ophthalmologist.

He completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne and subsequently completed a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmic Science through the University of Sydney. He undertook specialist ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital – where he won the cataract surgery prize – before 2 additional fellowship positions in cataract surgery at The Alfred Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide to further advance his surgical skill.

Dr Kane is widely published and highly cited within the field of cataract surgery. He created an algorithm for the selection of the lens power in cataract surgery that is the international gold standard and has been used millions of times worldwide. He licenses this to many of the major companies within the field and is a key opinion leader for technological advances in the field of cataract surgery. He is regularly invited to speak at international conferences.

Dr Kane uses a personalised approach to each patient, recognising that each patient’s eyes and visual requirements are unique. His expertise in various lens technologies allows him to match the most appropriate technology for each patient. His easy-going and friendly nature – a product of his upbringing in Echuca – allows patients to relax and make an informed decision about their eye care.

He is a visiting consultant at Northern Health and consults privately at Armadale Eye Clinic and Camberwell Vision Eye Institute. He operates at Camberwell Day Surgery.
